2026 AWE Fellow Open House features Bluebirds and demonstrations at the Discovery Center
BORDENTOWN, N.J. — Recently, the community joined D&R Greenway Land Trust at the Discovery Center at Point Breeze, on Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. for an Open House and special presentation by D&R Greenway’s 2026 AWE (Alliance for Watershed Education) Fellow, Anna DePinho.
D&R Greenway celebrates working with youth entering the environmental field through the
William Penn Foundation’s Alliance for Watershed Education (AWE) of the Delaware River.
The audience was invited to learn about bird conservation in the Delaware River Watershed and have some fun with bird-friendly crafts. Those who attended the outdoor workshop led by Anna De Pinho, could find out how to attract bluebirds to their own yards, as she explains the construction and installation of two new bluebird nest boxes at The Discovery Center at Point Breeze.

Additionally, Anna creates an “Adopt-a-Box” program with these two nest boxes and additional nest boxes at St. Michaels Farm Preserve and the Betty Wold Johnson Hillside Farm Preserve that will be
open to the public on Oct. 18.
All nest boxes will be available for “adoption” and will be enrolled on Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Nest Watch site, so that the adopter has the option and materials to monitor the nest box.
This network of 20 environmental education centers from Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New
Jersey is aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of the Delaware River
watershed, a 13,500 square mile system that provides drinking water for 15 million people.
It includes public opportunities to explore, enjoy and engage in activities on local
waterways with the ultimate goal of advancing protection of this critical resource.
The Delaware River Watershed Fellowship is a paid, 12-week internship at one of the 20
environmental centers, aimed at engaging young people in the surrounding communities to
become ambassadors for the Delaware River.
The fellows assist in environmental programming, recreation activities on the trail and waterways, habitat enhancement projects and community outreach and engagement. The event was the culmination of the 2026 Fellowship Project.
D&R Greenway accepted donations, and welcome participants to contribute to D&R Greenway’s work to preserve and protect land, to inspire a conservation ethic now and forever.

Watercolor Society in the Walk through Time Gallery.
Explore the unique 60-acre Point Breeze, the former Joseph Bonaparte estate in Bordentown, before or after the program. The Discovery Center Museum is open to visitors from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on
weekends this summer. Special events require pre-registration as our seating capacity is
limited.
