This 5-ingredients pretzel appeals to health-conscious consumers

Long before “clean label” became a buzzword, Uncle Jerry’s was baking pretzels the same way it always has— using five simple ingredients: water, yeast, sourdough starter, flour, and salt.

Now, in the midst of a processed food backlash, the family-run business is seeing a surge in demand with sales surging more than 30% this year.

Misty Skolnick, who co-owns the business with her dad, says the company’s clean-label stance wasn’t a marketing decision—it was just how they were raised to make food. That simplicity has quietly turned Uncle Jerry’s into a go-to snack in the better-for-you snack aisle.

For more than 40 years Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels has never deviated from its core recipe which includes only five ingredients – water, yeast, sourdough starter, flour and salt.

Its commitment to using simple ingredients that people can pronounce has helped the company become an accidental leader in the better-for-you snack segment that helped the company’s sales surge by more than 30% this year.

Unlike other packaged food companies that chase trends, Uncle Jerry’s Pretzels success has come from keeping it simple by avoiding the use of sugar, oil, artificial colors, and other preservatives.
