Leading brands leverage Aetrex’s 3D foot scanning technology to enhance fit and performance

Athletic brands utilize Albert 2 Pro scanner to gather critical data for improved footwear product designs

TEANECK, N.J. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — Aetrex, Inc. (“Aetrex”), the global market leader in foot scanning technology, orthotics and comfort & wellness footwear, today announced its Albert 2 Pro foot scanning technology is being used in performance labs of notable brand partners, including BOA Technology Inc., makers of the BOA® Fit System, to enhance the performance of their fit systems and footwear of global leading brand partners.

Since the launch of its Performance Fit Lab four years ago, BOA has been utilizing the Albert 2 Pro to scan athletes’ unique feet, collecting key 3D foot measurements along with biomechanical data through motion capture, force plates, and more to better understand the way subtle variations in foot shape, the construction of footwear uppers, and material choices impact athletic performance. In addition to using scan data to select and recruit testers with a well-matched foot shape into the lab, BOA analyzes the data to optimize how the BOA Fit System integrates onto footwear to securely wrap the foot, yielding the maximum performance benefits.

“If we understand where along the length of the shoe the average instep is highest, we can design our panels to lock that area in,” said Dan Feeney, Ph.D., Director of Biomechanics Research & Performance Fit Lab. “Similarly, we use the length from the heel to the metatarsophalangeal joints to determine where our last panel should end. Thus, we ensure footwear from industry leading brand partners garner the maximum performance benefits of the BOA Fit System.”

BOA’s Performance Fit Lab has scanned over 300 athletes with the Albert 2 Pro and conducted performance tests in golf, court, trail run, hike, workwear, ski, snowboard, and cycling segments. BOA found that configurations featuring a wrap structure powered by the BOA Fit System improved athletic performance (agility and speed) by up to 9%, according to a peer-reviewed white paper by Footwear Science.

More recently, Burton is among many performance brand partners acquiring an Albert 2 Pro to help inform the best fit through scientific data.

“Burton is currently trialing the latest and greatest Aetrex technology at Burton’s Vermont headquarters store as a part of our efforts to find a real-world data source to help understand foot shapes better,” said Eric Carlson, Sr. Product Line Merchandiser at Burton.

IEEE publishes 2023 National Electrical Safety Code® (NESC®)

Latest Edition of the NESC Will Go into Effect in February 2023 to Help Deliver a Safer and More Sustainable Electric Power Supply

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — #IEEESA–IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, and the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) today announced the release of the 2023 National Electrical Safety Code® (NESC®).

Published by IEEE SA and typically updated every five years to stay current with changes in the industry and technology, the NESC specifies best practices for the safety of electric supply and communication utility systems at both public and private utilities. The NESC sets the ground rules and guidelines for practical safeguarding of workers and the public during the installation, operation, or maintenance of power, telephone, cable TV, and railroad signal systems.

Just as it has done for more than a century, the NESC is continuously evolving and being refined to embrace new technologies for a more sustainable future. The potential impacts of recent and emerging technologies are reflected in the new Code.

Notable changes to the 2023 NESC include:

  • Significant revisions were made in Section 14 covering batteries, addressing new battery technologies, energy storage, and backup power.
  • A new Section 19 for photovoltaic generating stations addresses general codes, location, grounding configurations, vegetation management, DC overcurrent protection, and DC conductors. These new rules accommodate large-scale solar power projects.
  • All stand-alone tables for metric measurements have been removed from the main code body and moved to Annex 1. For tables that include both English and metric values, the revised Code presents numerical values in the customary “inch-foot-pound” system first and the corresponding metric values following in parentheses to help prevent misreading errors.
  • In the Clearances section, as well as in the specification of the Grade of Construction, the Code further clarifies the use of non-hazardous fiber optic cables.

“The 2023 NESC includes updates throughout, many of which address emerging technologies such as solar and wind energy, distributed energy/microgrids, batteries and energy storage, and wireless small cell networks,” said Nelson Bingel, chair of the NESC Committee. “We’re grateful to the many participants who contributed to the 2023 edition, and we welcome new contributors to join our NESC team.”

Like previous versions, the 2023 edition will be available in digital, printed, e-learning, and mobile-app formats. This edition consists of initial sections covering scope, purpose, and grounding methods, followed by sections that include specific rules for electric supply stations, overhead lines, underground lines, and safety-related work practices.

A companion document, the 2023 NESC Handbook, is available with the Code. The Handbook includes all of the rules of the Code but also provides insights and commentary on the rules and how to apply them from the experts who helped develop the Code, including historical notes to provide context for Code revisions and additions.

Information on updates to the code can be found on the NESC homepage. The 2023 NESC and handbook are available for purchase at the IEEE Standards store and available for subscription at the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library.

ZEBEDEE raises $35 million Series B from Kingsway Capital, The Raine Group, Square Enix and existing investors to scale payments platform for virtual worlds

The innovative, Bitcoin-powered fintech for gaming will utilize the investment to accelerate product development and integrations for a growing industry partner list

HOBOKEN, N.J. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — #PlayToEarnZEBEDEE, the leading fintech and next-generation payment processor for the gaming industry, today announced it has closed a $35M funding round led by Kingsway Capital and joined by leading global merchant bank The Raine Group as well as video-game giant Square Enix. Existing investors including Lakestar and Initial Capital also participated in the round. This Series B funding round will help ZEBEDEE scale company-wide to meet the needs of the biggest names in the games industry.

ZEBEDEE has created a platform that allows any game developer to easily add programmable money into their games. Anything that happens in a game can trigger a payment, which is sent instantly and at nearly zero cost. When a player shoots someone in a competitive CS:GO match, they can take a small amount of money (e.g. a fraction of a cent) from them in real-time inside the match itself. When a character in a platform game jumps and picks up a coin—as in Super Mario—that coin can be worth real money, which the player receives instantly and can also spend instantly. To make this work, ZEBEDEE offers both API-based tools for developers as well as an app for gamers, which enables them to discover the growing range of ZEBEDEE-powered games and acts as the wallet for sending and receiving funds between games and players.

To make this work from a technical standpoint, ZEBEDEE uses the Bitcoin Lightning Network as a key piece of its payments infrastructure. While blockchain gaming has become a persistent buzzword over the past two years, ZEBEDEE steadily maintains its differentiation as a FinTech and payment services provider focused on gaming: Bitcoin is simply the payment rail that enables the flexible, programmable transfers of any amount between any game, app or user. For ZEBEDEE users, it is not about Bitcoin, nor should it be. It is about a more rewarding experience in games, packaged into intuitive and simple UX that does not require any knowledge of crypto.

This approach clearly resonates with both gamers and game makers and has led ZEBEDEE to have an outstanding year, with their user count increasing by over 10x since the startup announced their series A round in September 2021. The growth has partly been driven by ZEBEDEE’s fast pace of innovation and ability to deliver exciting products to market, as well as a growing number of partnerships both with game studios building on the platform and integrations with notable finance industry players.

“We are pleased to be in a position where we can confidently scale our team and grow our business even as the macroeconomic backdrop becomes increasingly uncertain,” said Simon Cowell, CEO of ZEBEDEE. “This funding round gives us the ability to meet our highly ambitious roadmap both in terms of building out our infrastructure to support the hundreds of millions of users that play our partners’ games, as well as hire the top-level talent needed to ensure every partner has the best possible experience working with ZEBEDEE.”

ZEBEDEE’s new funding round puts the startup in a strong position to expand its best-in-class infrastructure, tools and services tailored specifically for games developers, many of whom are already working with ZEBEDEE.

“We are excited to lead ZEBEDEE’s latest funding round and support their continuing mission to become the Bitcoin enabler of choice for their partners,” said Afonso Campos, Managing Partner at Kingsway Capital. “Partnering with ZEBEDEE will allow its entire ecosystem to benefit from higher user retention, lower transaction costs and generally a superior payments experience. Importantly, it will also help bring Bitcoin to millions around the globe.”

“In ZEBEDEE, we see a world-class team that has created a truly powerful use case for cryptocurrency in games,” said Kenny Lee, Vice President at Raine Group. “We have seen new monetization methods disrupt the gaming industry in the past, and we believe the integration of Bitcoin directly into games is a new way to expand the connection with players and engage them in ways that were never possible before. The wide range of use cases for ZEBEDEE’s platform provides flexibility for the game designer and allows ZEBEDEE to partner with any developer, from AAA console and PC to hyper-casual mobile.”

Key Company Info:

Amount of funds ZEBEDEE has raised to date: Approximately $50M

Current team size: 50+ employees spread out across the world on a fully remote team

The company was founded: October 2019

Size of average transaction (nanopayment): $0.08

Size of smallest transaction currently supported: $0.0002 with potential to decrease by 1000x if market demand arises.

About ZEBEDEE:

ZEBEDEE is the leading fintech and next-generation payment processor for the gaming industry. Its sophisticated tools enable developers to create real economies in video games for developers, players and communities. ZEBEDEE erases the boundaries between real and virtual worlds by powering instant global payments of any size for any game or application through the Bitcoin Lightning Network. Opengear research finds 90% of CIOs involved in digital transformation decision-making – but only 13% of network engineers involved

EDISON, N.J. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — New research from Opengear, a Digi International company (NASDAQ, DGII, www.digi.com), found that, while 90% of CIOs say they are involved in decision-making for their organizations’ digital transformation efforts, only 17% of those CIOs report that network managers are similarly involved, and only 13% indicate that network engineers play a role. That research – a survey of CIOs and network engineers in the U.K., U.S., France, Germany, and Australia – highlights the need for greater collaboration to deliver digital transformation and for CIOs to increase the involvement of network engineers.

The survey found that just 28% of CIOs are very satisfied with their organization’s network engineering talent and only 15% of network engineers are very satisfied with CIO leadership. However, there are positive signs that the two groups can work together more closely to address digital transformation.

CIOs understand the importance of the skills IT and networking teams bring. More than three-quarters (78%) report they made more use of networking and IT teams over the past two years, while 80% said the need for network engineers has increased over the past five years. Unfortunately, these employees and their skills are often in short supply. Thirty-nine percent of CIOs report a lack of skills/resources among the biggest barriers to digital transformation today, and 34% cite a lack of digital skills among the biggest pain points once digital transformation projects are underway.

A greater focus on recruitment and retention is an increasing priority – more than one-third of CIOs (35%) say that, while they are looking to recruit, many have not yet begun the process. Moreover, 62% said their organization had not initiated a process of change management to ensure network engineers are equipped to support digital transformation initiatives. More than half (54%) say their businesses have not yet delivered in-house technical training for these people.

“CIOs understand the importance of the digital capabilities and talents IT teams and network engineers bring to their organizations,” said Gary Marks, president of Opengear. “They appreciate the shortage of these skills impacting the industry today. Yet more is needed from CIOs and other executives to nurture and support these professionals. We must develop greater communication among leadership and engineers – not just in recruitment but also in training and change management. We must commit to involving network professionals much more in strategic decision-making to drive the future of networking and digital transformation.”

Belleville Public Schools adds multiple PowerSchool solutions to increase cohesion and efficiency across departments

New Jersey school district implements additional PowerSchool solutions to foster better learning outcomes and districtwide collaboration

FOLSOM, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — PowerSchool (NYSE: PWSC), the leading provider of cloud-based software for K-12 education in North America, today announced Belleville Public Schools (BPS) in Essex County, New Jersey added multiple PowerSchool education technology solutions to unify information across departments, improve districtwide collaboration, and create better learning outcomes for students. BPS is implementing PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS), Unified Classroom® Schoology Learning, Unified Classroom® Performance Matters, PowerSchool Unified Insights, and PowerSchool Unified Talent™ Employee Records, among many other products. Once these PowerSchool solutions are implemented, BPS will benefit from a more advanced districtwide data aggregation and reporting functionality, visibility into student performance, and simplified human resource and talent management capabilities.

“Our district wanted a one-stop-shop where all of the major resources we needed easily and effectively communicated with one another, as opposed to operating in silos,” said Nicole Shanklin, Director of Elementary Education and PowerSchool Lead, Belleville Public Schools. “Based on our positive experiences with PowerSchool solutions we were excited to add even more to truly create a unified platform for Belleville Public Schools. We are currently in the implementation phase and are excited to fully launch our program during the 2022-23 school year.”

BPS is expanding its PowerSchool investment in order to help the district obtain tighter tech integrations via unified solutions. PowerSchool solutions will offer access to secure data analytics dashboards supporting BPS’ need to share key aggregate-level student information with the proper stakeholders, including parents, the school board, and others across the community. The end goal is to enhance staff experience and help students grow academically, socially, and behaviorally.

Prior to PowerSchool, BPS used various, disparate services for everyday instruction, such as Google Classroom*. To enhance functionality and communication among stakeholders regarding assessment data, the district searched for technology solutions that provided a grade pass-back option to the district’s SIS. The goal was to have graded assignments that would sync to the district gradebook, leading to greater articulation in consideration of student growth and academic needs. In response, BPS pivoted to PowerSchool’s Schoology Learning, and PowerSchool SIS, to solve these synchronization issues.

“We expect Belleville Public Schools to see substantial improvements to its operations through the addition and implementation of its newest PowerSchool solutions,” said Craig Greenseid, Chief Revenue Officer, PowerSchool. “From attracting and developing new teachers, to assessments and standards tracking, we’re excited to provide BPS with exceptional education technology to empower and advance the district’s instructional capabilities.”

BPS is a public school district located in Belleville, New Jersey serving over 4,500 students in Pre-K to 12th grade. Across the district’s 10 total schools, BPS offers a 1:1 technology integration, 106 sports programs and clubs, and faculty with advanced degrees. Additionally, among the honors and distinctions awarded to BPS over the years, notable designations include being designated as a “High Performing District” by the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum and “District of Distinction” by District Administration, among other accolades.

Velodyne Lidar wins GeoBuiz Summit Award for innovation in Mapping Technology

Velodyne’s Intelligent Infrastructure Solution Creates 3D Maps of Roads and Intersections to Advance Safety in Communities Globally

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — #LidarVelodyne Lidar, Inc. (Nasdaq: VLDR, VLDRW) today announced its Intelligent Infrastructure Solution won the GeoBuiz Summit Award. Velodyne’s smart city solution was recognized for excellence in innovation in the Mapping Technology category.

Intelligent Infrastructure Solution, combining Velodyne’s award-winning lidar sensors and Bluecity’s AI software, creates a real-time 3D map of roads and intersections. It provides precise traffic monitoring and analytics that are not possible with other types of sensors like cameras, radar or inductive loops.

The full stack solution is deployed across three continents, including systems rolled out in Texas, Florida, Nevada, California, New Jersey, Missouri and Canada.

Intelligent Infrastructure Solution enables cities and states to take a proactive approach on safety by offering real-time multimodal analytics of not only vehicles, but also vulnerable road users. It is helping communities understand root causes of near-miss collisions, red light running and different types of roadway user behavior.

By improving traffic flow and reducing congestion, Intelligent Infrastructure Solution can improve energy efficiency and reduces greenhouse gas emissions for a more sustainable future. Earlier this year, the solution won the 2022 SXSW Innovation Awards from the South by Southwest Conference and Festivals.

“Velodyne’s Intelligent Infrastructure Solution was the standout system in our Mapping Technology category,” said Anusuya Datta, Editor – Americas, Geospatial World. “The solution is transforming infrastructure, enabling governments to build a data-driven plan to create a safer, more sustainable traffic network.”

“Our solution supports cities throughout the world as they work to implement street improvements, policy changes and educational efforts that will protect vulnerable road users,” said Sally Frykman, Chief Marketing Officer, Velodyne Lidar. “Intelligent Infrastructure Solution advances Velodyne’s mission of creating smart technologies for a world in motion and their vision of science in service of safety.”

GeoBuiz Summit is a one-of-a-kind geospatial business leaders conference that is held by Geospatial World, a premier media outlet that advances geospatial knowledge in the world economy and society. Geospatial World recently featured Velodyne Lidar CEO Dr. Ted Tewksbury in an article about how Velodyne’s lidar sensors and software are playing an important role in applications including in geospatial and mapping, as well as last mile delivery, industrial and robotics, manufacturing and infrastructure.
