Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation & Tractor Supply Co. donate $250,000 to animal shelters

Mutts Across America Gives Surprise Grants to 50 Animal Shelters, One in Each State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation and Tractor Supply Company have teamed up to provide a quarter-million dollars in grants through MuttNation’s Mutts Across America program. A ‘surprise’ $5,000 donation will be made to one shelter or foster-based rescue in each state across the country. Organizations are carefully researched and vetted before honoring one outstanding nonprofit in each state.

Bev Lambert, Miranda’s mom and co-founder of MuttNation, who conceived Mutts Across America seven years ago said, “There are so many fantastic organizations doing such great work that selecting the final shelters is always the hardest part.”

Miranda added, “This was our first signature program and it’s our cornerstone. It lets us reward the hard-working rescues and celebrate shelter pets everywhere. It hits all the high notes.” The GRAMMY, CMA and ACM award winning, multi-platinum recording artist continued, “We’re so honored to have Tractor Supply Company as our partner. We’re accomplishing so much together and, thanks to their incredibly generous support, this year’s gifts to the shelters will be the most impactful ever. Given the fundraising difficulties rescues have faced over the past year, we know it will make a huge difference to thousands of animals.”

“At Tractor Supply, we love our four-legged friends and appreciate this opportunity to demonstrate our ongoing support for animal shelters across the country.” said Nicole Logan, Vice President, Divisional Merchandise Manager at Tractor Supply Company. “Miranda’s passion and tremendous dedication dovetails with our mission at Tractor Supply to care for all pets and animals. We are excited to expand our partnership with Miranda and the MuttNation organization to make this the most impactful Mutts Across America yet.”

In addition to this donation, Tractor Supply is the exclusive retailer of MuttNation products. A percentage of all sales goes to the MuttNation Foundation to further support the cause.

Since the initiative’s inception, MuttNation’s Mutts Across America has supported more than 350 shelters with over $1.25 million in grants. Here are this year’s recipients:

“The Warrior Within Me” book released

Highlights: Self-Help *Christian beliefs* Author’s Journey & Struggles

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Issa Nesheiwat’s long journey capturing the guidance of Christianity to help overcome adversities, has been released by Palmetto Publishing. “The Warrior Within Me” is now available.

Nesheiwat, a Poughkeepsie, NY resident, promised God years ago to write the book, after his struggles, including an ordeal facing his family’s successful battle with leukemia.

Nesheiwat, 37, was born in Jordan, emigrated to New Jersey, and then moved to Yonkers, NY, where he attended school, and later, just three months before his high school graduation, moved to Poughkeepsie. His family now includes his wife and four children. Despite many successful business ventures, it is this book that was a work dream he has made reality.

My life has been full of personal and family struggles, and with my knowledge of the Bible, my faith in God and my know how to get things done, I overcame my struggles, and felt it was important to share with others who seek either self help or help with similar situations,” Nesheiwat stated.

Central to Nesheiwat’s struggles was the years long battle his family faced with AML Leukemia. “I can tell you that with my knowledge of the Bible, my faith in God and my own desire to help my family and myself, I was able to persevere and share this story so people can help themselves through God and their inner beliefs,” added Nesheiwat.

Nesheiwat’s book is guided by six key principles: Spiritual warfare; understanding how trust engages faith; the truth about fear; why God chooses to communicate to us in our dreams; the importance of knowing biblical truth; and how frequency levels affect your life. Nesheiwat speaks of “The Real Secret,” which is missed in most self help books of this nature. The six principles, along with the current state of the individual’s mind and body, all play into how someone handles when they are tested in life.

Pastor Cano Rolon of Newburgh, NY stated that he was “humbled and blessed to have the honor to read this amazing book…I guarantee you that this book will edify your spirit.”

The book is available on Amazon and also on the book’s own website, www.thewarriorwithinmebook.com. Ebook and audible are also available on this website.

‘Duppet’ comedy contends depression, which COVID-19 makes more real

The Coronavirus Pandemic and its infectious deadly disease – COVID-19 have affected many aspects of everyday life like health, careers and the global economy.

For Comedian John Poveromo of New Jersey, this is very real. Poveromo would rather be headlining in his show, Duppet, around the country now, but instead he is in self-isolation like the rest of us.

In the meantime, he has turned to social media, and has his relatable, real-life-experiences comedy, Duppet streaming on Amazon Prime.

The short, Duppet, is “derived from Poveromo’s own struggles with depression,” states his bio.

It is “a comedic short film dealing with issues of depression and anxiety, which manifest themselves in the form of a puppet named Duppet,” the bio. info. states.

Even though Poveromo and others can relate to these mental health struggles in Duppet, he does not limit himself to just on-stage performances. He is also a comic book writer and artist, with his published artworks called, Drawings from a Nobody.

However, in early March, shortly before the Coronavirus Pandemic lockdown, Poveromo had a stand-up act that was scheduled at Curlies in Rochester, N.H., where he is a regular.

“I love going back there,” said Poveromo. “I get to hang out for the weekend, see a lot of regulars and a lot of new faces…It’s really just a great feeling…”

Poveromo first got interested in comedy when he was a child, drawn in by the relatability of the adult comics he saw on screen, and encouraged by the world of Jim Hensen, which would later be proven an inspiration for him.

“When I was a kid, comedians were adults who didn’t take the world so seriously,” said Poveromo. “So, it’s a weird way to see things because growing up, you’re surrounded by your parents, your teachers, people who come from a place of authority and then you see a comic and they’re older and they’re breaking away all the bulls***.”

And learning from those he admires, Poveromo has his own list of admirers who love his comedy.

“John Poveromo’s cutting edge, quick-witted sarcasm is hysterical and it’s fun to watch his playfulness with the audience as he drives home specific points with his spot-on punchlines. In a world full of bland, he is a refreshing shot of young vibrant adrenaline that goes straight to your funny bone! This kid’s got the goods!!” states Joey Kola of the Rosie O’Donnell Show, Rachael Ray, and Kevin Can Wait.

Based on watercolor paintings by the noted, Award-winning Artist James Fiorentino, his exhibit, “Portraits of Preservation,” highlights the iconic landscapes and treasured wildlife found on 20,865 acres and 308 properties permanently preserved by D&R Greenway for three decades now.

So, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6, the exhibit will feature an Opening Reception with the artist’s talk and special guests at the Johnson Education Center at D&R Greenway.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have a renowned artist like James Fiorentino help us celebrate the beauty of the lands and wildlife that the D&R Greenway Land Trust has preserved,” said CEO Linda Mead.

“The public will enjoy seeing the art and learning the stories of these special lands at the exhibit. In our 30th year, this is an opportunity to raise awareness about not only what we have accomplished but also about what there still remains to do,” she states.

Consisting of nearly 30 works of art, the exhibit will allow visitors to tour preserved lands of the D&R Greenway through the eyes of an artist, and to discover wildlife that can be found inhabiting these green spaces.

Among lands featured in the exhibit are: Greenway Meadows in Princeton; St. Michael’s Farm Preserve in Hopewell, the Abbott Marshlands in Bordentown, Capitol City Farm in Trenton, Steel Gap Preserve in Bridgewater, Goat Hill Overlook in Lambertville, and Sourland Mountain Preserve that spans several area towns.

Among the wildlife species portrayed are bear, fox, wood frogs, eagles, hummingbirds, monarch butterflies and bees that depend on the habitats protected by D&R Greenway for their survival.

With the current number of bird species declining, “the preservation of these places is more important now than ever,” says Fiorentino.

His artwork proceeds will also benefit the preservation of future lands.

Meanwhile, visitors can also take home some of his beautiful pieces, since originals and reproductions of the art will be available for purchase as well.

Fiorentino further comments that, his “family has made its home in Central Jersey in large part because of the beauty surrounds us here. I’m proud to be associated with D&R Greenway as a member of the board, and now as an artist helping to celebrate the fact that these beautiful places will be protected forever.”

The NJPF held activities and exhibits predominantly at Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie Mansion in Cadwalader Park in Trenton as part of its events it named the NJPF: A 25 Year Retrospective.

Other events took place at the Freeholder’s Gallery in Elizabeth; at the Upstairs Gallery at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown; and at the Watchung Arts Center in Watchung, where artists had opening receptions to display their fine art photography and meet their fans.

At the closing reception, many of the works were for sale with a percentage of sales going to the Trenton City Museum, said Nancy Ori, the founder of NJPF and curator of the exhibits.

“The Museum is a wonderful showplace for this retrospective exhibit tracing the history and dramatic changes that have happened in photographic art because of the impact technology has had in the last 25 years, a period which corresponds to the founding and growth of the NJ Photography Forum,” explained Ori.

The exhibits at Trenton City Museum showcase pieces that relate to the history of photography within the last 25 years.

Before and during the closing reception, the artists spoke about their work. There were nearly 100 artworks by 37 artists who live throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

While celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the NJPF has been dedicated to furthering the interests of professional and serious photographers living and working in the New Jersey area.

Over the past 25 years, the NJPF has become “the largest and most recognized group of fine art exhibiting photographers in the state,” states Ori.

NJPF holds monthly meetings at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit and encourage attendees to share expertise and advance their skills.

Meanwhile, at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie Mansion, there is a collection of fine art and historical displays that illuminate New Jersey’s historical, industrial and cultural past and present.

The museum is in an Italianate Villa built in 1848, and the mansion is the centerpiece of Cadwalader Park. It was designed by the famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, whose most famous work is New York City’s Central Park.

FBN features local woman in primetime series, ‘Strange Inheritance’

PRINCETON, N.J. – Stories about lucky heirs and their unusual fortunes return tomorrow night on FOX Business Network’s (FBN) hit reality series, Strange Inheritance, and will feature a local couple.

Sandy and Tim Perkins, who now live in Hopewell, inherited an original, furnished French chateau that was moved to a Princeton address.

Strange Inheritance host Jamie Colby talks about the home‘s furnishings.

“This is one part of the chateau that is most impressive. From the gilded front doors to the light fixtures, plaster detail and furnishings. So much of this home is authentic ‘Vanderbilt,”’ she said.

The Perkins renovated the house after it fell into serious disrepair when the previous owners, Sandy’s mom and her stepfather became elderly and could no longer maintain it.

The couple loves the home that they restored to its original features.

Colby states that Sandy loves the house, “and has been probably the most patient home renovation partner…”
She said the couple planned a yearlong project that spanned more than a decade, and according to Sandy, her husband Tim was more than convincing about bringing the chateau back to its original glory days “despite so many issues they endured” to get it to its magnificence today.

Sandy and her siblings inherited the home in 2000 and her and her husband have been living on the property since around 2005 while they were rehabbing the main mansion.

According to Colby, the chateau is “big enough that we may not have seen all it has to offer!” She said it has more than one couple needs, and that it even has an indoor swimming pool that is spectacular, period appropriate in design and elegant.

Strange Inheritance
is in its fourth season on FBN, and according to Colby they recently shot their 100th episode of a family’s inheritance.

Tomorrow night, the show will start at 9 to 10 p.m. EST.

During the first half hour, the episode is entitled, “Screen Gems,” where a mother and son inherit 200,000 pieces of jewelry worn in classic Hollywood movies.

The next half-hour episode at 9:30 p.m. is entitled “Gilded Age Money Pit,” featuring the Perkins from Princeton, where Sandy is a retired school teacher who inherits a French chateau that has been moved to New Jersey and is filled with furnishings from the Vanderbilts’ mansions.

The reality series chronicles stories of inheritances from people and places across the country. Folks with inheritance stories that they would like to share can email them to jamie@strangeinheritance.com.

Colby says that they consider hundreds of submissions from their viewers and that they find at least half of the 26 half-hour shows on their own each season.

Local actor guest stars on season opener of NBC’s ‘Chicago PD’

HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. — Since 2008 when area resident, Patrick Byas, had his first speaking role on NBC’s Law and Order SVU – Wildlife episode, he has been optimistic about his career as an actor on television’s leading networks such as ABC, CBS, and NBC.

Patrick Byas appears on television leading networks as an actor in crime shows where he plays different roles.
– Provided photo

Byas had been interested in acting since a decade earlier when an actor from the movie, Terminator 2 T-1000, came to his junior high school in 1998 and spoke to his class about his career as an actor.

“From there, it inspired me to become an actor myself,” said Byas. “I understood that it was going to be challenging…but I felt it was going to be a challenge that I can obtain.”

So, Byas has overcame challenges such as learning how to memorize his lines and addressing weight issues, and now he act as Marcus Kelly on the season opener of Chicago PD on NBC, which airs Sept. 27.

While Byas is proud of his many accomplishments of acting in shows on other networks, he is even happier about his role on Chicago PD — that he is guest starring and that he is in some scenes with all the leads.

He is a veteran actor in crime shows, where he would film primarily in New York City, but Chicago PD show has taken him to the Windy City that he describes as “the beautiful and unique city.’’

Chicago PD is from Emmy-Winning producer Dick Wolf. In the show, “District 21 of the Chicago Police Department is composed of the uniformed cops, who deal with street crimes; the Intelligence Unit, which deals with major crimes like drug trafficking and high profile murders,” states the show’s website. Then, there is the tough boss, Sgt. Hank Voight, who is flexible with the rules in order to pursue justice. The story is about how the work on the force and the personal lives of the officers take a toll on their lifestyles and how they struggle to balance the two as they try to do their best in obtaining justice in their city.

Byas said that one of the most exciting thing about filming Chicago PD, was that he got to work with the very accomplished actor, Eriq La Salle, who is known for roles in movies such as ER and Coming to America.

“He’s the first big-time actor who has directed me on a well-known TV show,” said Byas.
Byas guest stars on Chicago PD as a gang lord.

According to him, this role is nothing too new to him because he grew up in the South Bronx where he would see this type of lifestyle up close.

He said he was exposed to harsh lifestyles of those who were trying to make ends meet. This included seeing how gangs interact on a daily basis.

However, he has used his negative experiences to his advantage where he has gained this promising role on Chicago PD, and also shows on other networks.

Along the way, Byas has also met the actor, Wendell Pierce, who he described as “definitely one cool dude.”

He said, “I respect his work as an actor, and it was definitely a great experience to meet him.”

Byas said the other TV networks that he appeared on includes ABC’s Time After Time, Spike Lee’s film, Touched With Fire; CBS’ Blue Blood; NBC’s Person of Interest; Showtime’s, Billions, Cartoon Network’s sitcom, The Jack and Triumph Show, and he also said that he has other films that will release soon.

Byas also said he has made friends with another actor, LaRoyce Hawkins, and discovered they are both young actors, around 30, with similar backgrounds, similar goals and interests.

He is enjoying the business and respecting other actors. In reference to Hawkins, he said, “To see him be under 30 years old and have one of the leads on the show made me appreciate him, his hustle and respect his grind.”

Byas also promised, “There’s no way that I will quit my dreams even though some days might be better than others, but I have a goal that I must reach and I have a lot of people depending on me and believing in me.”

The actor said his character Marcus Kelly, on Chicago PD has a little bit of attitude, and does not really get along with the cops. He said he is not sure if justice is really on his side, especially because of the corrupt system.

Byas moved to Hightstown in 2000, and graduated from Hightstown High School in 2004. Then, he went to Rutgers University where he studied theater. One of his goals as an actor is to have his own television show.

Saxophonist woos audiences at Trenton hotel

Dr. Alexander “Dr. Suave” Nicolas is a saxophonist and instrumental musician who attracts international audiences. (Provided photo)

Even though Dr. Alexander “Dr. Suave” Nicolas took a four year hiatus from music, it was not too long before he made The Return album his fans will love to hear at upcoming shows in Trenton at the Wyndham and at other locations.

Nicolas, a 30-year veteran saxophonist, a composer and a producer was born in Panama and has been living in the United States since 1988. He received his college education here and has been an educator in the Trenton public schools and is currently an adjunct Spanish professor at Mercer County Community College.

When Nicolas is not in the classroom, you can find him in the recording studio at AR Records, making smooth instrumental Gospel and Jazz music that is featured on his new CD, The Return, which consists of 11 songs.

Music lovers who enjoy instrumentals will have a chance to listen to and enjoy an evening with Nicolas featuring his 13-year-old daughter, Yasmine Nicolas as vocalist, selected Saturdays at Trenton Wyndham Hotel on Lafayette Street, from 7:30 to 10 pm.

“My experience in Trenton is usually positive. I do instrumental Gospel so I reach people of faith. People say I sound better live. I have done music overseas too and I have a positive experience with live audiences,” Nicolas related.

He noted that instrumental music does not have limits of who can make connections to it because of its form without words. Therefore, it reaches a wide audience “touching their hearts and allowing people to reflect on their daily lifestyles. It doesn’t have barriers,” he added.

“Most of my music is original, but I do cover music – a mixture of everything from Adele’s, Hello to Charlie Puth’s, Im just one call away,” Nicolas said.

Nicolas said his biggest gratification is reaching different cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds with his music.

Nicolas instrumental music has been played in more than 120 countries since the early 1990s, he said. He also said he has had audiences of more than 10 to 20,000 people.

In his native country, Panama, Nicolas is compared to the likes of Dave Koz and Kenny G. because of his successful albums and musical performances.
His new CD, The Return, represents his creativity and is a musical way of sending a message to all his fans and music followers, he said.

“The Return is my new birth inspiration because 90 per cent of the songs were written, performed and composed by me,” he said. “I hope that my new release will inspire and encourage someone out there,” he added.

Nicolas had been away from the music scene because he had to address personal and family matters. He said he needed time to figure out what kind of music he really wanted to do.

Over the years, he has performed at the Latin Grammy’s in 2006, been featured on various television shows such as Telemundo in 2006, had interviews on ABC in 2002 and 2008, performed at Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, N.Y., in 2004, sang the national anthem at the 76ers game in Philadephia, among other professional ventures.

His all-time musical releases include: Because He Lives, Fidelity, Merry Christmas, Faith, Canto A Jesus, New Heart The Groove, There Are Moments, and his latest, The Return.

Fans can see Nicolas, aka Dr. Suave at his upcoming concerts this year in Trenton on Saturdays, March 18, March 25, April 29, May 27, June 24, July 29, Aug. 26, Sept. 30, Oct.28, Nov. 25, and Dec. 16.
