Mercer County bike-share program returns

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The County of Mercer, the Mercer County Park Commission, and Verve have restarted the bike-share program at three locations around the County park system — Mercer County Park, Rosedale Park and the Red Barn in Mercer Meadows.

Eight bikes are at each location and can be rented by downloading the Verve Micro-mobility Sharing app from the App Store or Google Play.

“Mercer County is becoming more bike-friendly through our county roadways and in our parks,” said County Executive Brian M. Hughes. “The bike share program continues to provide our park users with an inexpensive and convenient way to enjoy biking without needing one of your own.”

Park patrons are encouraged to create a VerveS account, where users can rent a bike from Mercer County Park near the 9/11 Memorial; Rosedale Park on Federal City Road; and at the Red Barn at Keefe and Cold Soil roads. The cost of the ride is $1 to start and 18 cents per minute thereafter. Users must be 18 years or older to rent a bike and rentals must be returned to one of the three county parks locations.

“I was very pleased to see our park patrons take advantage of this amenity during the past couple of years,” said Aaron T. Watson, Park Commission Executive Director. “This bike share program makes it easy for families to explore our parks and the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.”

Verve has been in business since 2018 with a focus on eco-friendly transportation. Verve scooters are set up at several East Coast HBCUs and are also available at Live Nation festivals around the country, including in New Orleans, Atlanta, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Verve’s relationship with the Park Commission began in 2021, which was its first time offering bicycles.

The Mercer County Park Commission has diverse recreational activities and natural resources for all ages to enjoy with more than 10,000 acres of parks, facilities and preserved open space. For up-to-date information on programming, recreation and events, please visit www.mercercountyparks.org or follow the parks on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Campbell appoints Kate Barrett to lead community affairs

Kim Fortunato to retire after more than a decade with the company

CAMDEN, N.J. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) today announced the appointment of Kate Barrett as Director, Community Affairs, effective May 6, 2022. Barrett will succeed Kim Fortunato who last year informed the company of her intent to retire. Fortunato will remain with Campbell until May 6, 2022 to ensure a smooth transition.

Barrett, who joined Campbell in 2017, will be responsible for setting the strategy and direction of Campbell’s community affairs work including employee volunteerism, philanthropy, sponsorships and the company’s Full Futures program, which focuses on advancing the school nutrition environment. Barrett will also serve as the President of the Campbell Soup Foundation, pending approval by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Barrett will report to Anthony Sanzio, Senior Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs.

For more than 150 years, Campbell has been committed to supporting the communities we call home and to building a legacy of impact,” said Sanzio. “Since joining Campbell, Kate has played a key role in designing our strategies and programs, and I am confident our community work will build upon that legacy under her leadership.”

Barrett joined Campbell as Senior Manager, Community Impact, where she oversaw the company’s direct philanthropic giving and supported the design and management of signature philanthropic programs, Campbell’s Healthy Communities and Full Futures. She was elected Vice President of the Campbell Soup Foundation in 2019 and played a vital role in revamping the Foundation’s operations and grantmaking approach to align with the company’s strategy and drive employee engagement. Prior to joining Campbell, Barrett was a project director at The Center for High Impact Philanthropy at the University of Pennsylvania. Earlier in her career, she held roles at technology startups as well as at the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

I am honored to continue to build upon Campbell’s long history of community impact as we work to strengthen and empower vibrant and equitable communities in our hometowns and support the neighborhoods where our employees live and work,” Barrett said.

Barrett earned her B.A. in community health from Brown University and her MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Fortunato to retire after more than a decade at Campbell

Fortunato joined Campbell in 2010 to launch Campbell’s Healthy Communities program, the 10-year, $10 million initiative to improve the health of young people in Campbell communities. Her role was the first of its kind in the food industry. Under her leadership, Healthy Communities became the company’s signature philanthropic program. In 2016, Fortunato began leading Campbell’s community affairs strategy and programs and became the first woman to serve as President of the Campbell Soup Foundation.

Fortunato and Campbell have been recognized for the positive impact of the company’s community work locally and nationally, including the United Way of Camden County Dr. Nathan Asbell Humanitarian Award in 2012, the first-ever Culture of Health Champion Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2015, the March of Dimes Roosevelt Award for Service to Humanity in 2016, and the Hopeworks Hopebuilder Award in 2019.

Sanzio said, “Kim has consistently lived Campbell’s values by caring, collaborating and seeking creative ways to drive impact, while focusing on equity and inclusion in our community work. We are grateful for her many meaningful contributions and wish her the best in her retirement.”

Since 1953, the Campbell Soup Foundation has provided financial support to communities throughout North America where Campbell employees live and work, with a focus on increasing healthy food access, encouraging healthy living and nurturing neighborhoods. The Foundation is employee-run, governed by a Board of Trustees and advised by an Executive Committee. Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation & Tractor Supply Co. donate over $250,000 to animal shelters

Mutts Across America Program Makes Surprise Donation in Every State

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — #4HMiranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation and Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, teamed up to donate more than $250,000 to animal shelters across the United States. Through MuttNation’s Mutts Across America program, the organizations issued a surprise $5,000 donation to one shelter or foster-based rescue in each state plus Washington DC, as well as a “Wildcard” pick.

“With over 14,000 shelters and rescue groups in the US, and so many deserving of support, selecting just one in each state is always the biggest challenge,” said Bev Lambert, Miranda’s mother and co-founder of MuttNation, who conceived Mutts Across America eight years ago.

“Mutts Across America was MuttNation’s very first signature program. Together we are accomplishing so much and, thanks to their incredibly generous support, we’re able to make a real difference for tens of thousands of animals.”

Since the initiative’s inception, MuttNation’s Mutts Across America has supported more than 400 shelters with over $1.5 million in grants. Tractor Supply first partnered with MuttNation for the initiative in 2021.

“Our Tractor Supply team loves animals, and Miranda and Bev’s passion and enthusiasm for shelter pets is an inspiration,” said Seth Estep, Tractor Supply’s EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer. “The Mutts Across America grants can have a tremendous impact on the facilities that support these abandoned and neglected animals. We are honored to partner with MuttNation in this initiative to help these shelters perform this difficult but important work.”

MuttNation conducts countless hours of research before selecting the winning nonprofits. Organizations do not apply to participate and receive no advance notice of the award.

In addition to the Mutts Across America partnership, Tractor Supply is the exclusive retailer of MuttNation pet products and On The Farm pet food and treats. A percentage of all sales goes to the MuttNation Foundation to further support its mission to promote and facilitate the adoption of shelter pets.
